Announcing the 2003 BBHA Select World Championships Tournament Team - April 9, 2003

One of the main highlights for this year is the return of the BBHA Select Team to the ISBHF World Championships in June.  This year's tournament is being held in Sierre, Switzerland from June 8th to the 14th.  This year's team looks to improve on their past performances even though their first match is set to be against the current reigning World Champions - Team Canada.

Check out the 2003 BBHA Select World Championships Tournament Team information page for more exciting information.

Team AC/DC are Crowned Fall 2002 BBHA Tournament Champions - October 15, 2002

The Fall 2002 Robin Hood Cup Tournament was one of the best played tournaments in the history of the BBHA. Both the winners Team AC/DC and the runners up Team Gouin Squad played a crowd pleasing Championship Game under near perfect weather conditions at the North Shore Facility.  Ken Shuhla of Team AC/DC took the Tournament MVP award with 19 points collected over the tournament play.

Here is a shot of the winning team after it was all over

Fall 2002 BBHA Golf Tournament - October 5, 2002

The Fall 2002 BBHA Golf Tournament was another enjoyable day of trading in the hockey stick for, among other things, another means of being able to smack a ball around.  This year's tournament found 14 teams of 2 battling it out for a variety of prizes.  The winning team of Justin Aggarwal and Mike Moore held off the team of Larry Turnbull and Roger Cash with a 2 stroke margin of victory.  Among the other winners, Wayne Newhook won with the longest drive, Ken Shuhla with the closest to the pin and visting vacationer David Owen took the prize for longest drive with a hockey stick.  That's right, hitting a golf ball with a hockey stick.   Check out one of the boys giving it a try in the following picture.

Secret BBHA Training Camp Revealed -

March 29th, 2002

In a closely held secret, it has become public that the BBHA has recently sent a group of its members on a trip to Barbados for a training camp in preparation for the upcoming European Cup, to be held in Bad Wierlishofen, Germany from June 7-9, 2002.  The crew were put through some rigorous work outs against some of the best players of the Barbados Hockey League (BHL) in a mini-tournament.  The BHL squad took a few games to figure out the advanced play of the BBHA Internationally experienced players, but in the final game, they were finally able to pull out a victory.

As John Cowan, the BBHA's All Star Goalie from the Worlds 2001, put it

"Collusion. That is the word of the day to describe the last game of our three game set on Monday night in Barbados. Like the Japanese planning to bomb Pearl Harbor, the Bajan squad used the element of surprise and a Kamikaze approach to forcing the play to beat our team 3-1."

Of course, this victory could only be attributed to what one of the host's termed "Bajan Party Animal" mode.  This was further revealed in one of Johnny C's "trip in review" comments

"The Barbados hockey tour will arguably go down as the greatest non-competitive hockey trip in the history of the BBHA. Most of the boys found it difficult to leave and would welcome the chance for a return engagement."

Perhaps not the training the BBHA Executive's had in mind when sending the boys to Barbados, but it sure sounded like the boys at least got some kind of workout.  To hear of the accounts from the BHL's viewpoint, have a look at the BHL's web site

Bermuda beats Team Canada - November 15th, 2001

You heard right, a select group of Bermuda ball hockey players faced off under the lights this past Tuesday night against Team Canada...Team Canada's National Senior Rugby squad, that is. The Canadian rugby team is in Bermuda to play in the annual World Rugby Classic. In between playing off against world competitive teams like the New Zealand All-Blacks and the British Classic Lions, along with late night festivities at the Swizzle Inn, the Canadian rugby squad found time to make an interesting and competitive ball hockey game versus the BBHA squad, impressing their local hosts. Thankfully, Team Canada's rugby instincts were kept under control throughout the match and no hefty body checks or injuries were reported against the local team.  Somehow, I don't think the BBHA would fare as well if a rugby match was played against these guys.

Ron McLean of Coaches Corner fame joins in a game with the boys at the PCC facility - September 10, 2001

In what could possibly be one of the most exciting events in the BBHA history, Ron McLean, who sits in the Coaches Corner with Don Cherry on Hockey Night in Canada, came out for a run with the boys while visiting Bermuda recently.  As all Canadians know, nothing makes for a better evening of watching Canada's favorite sport than watching Ron and Don do their thing during the first intermission of a hockey game.

The reports in from a few of the boys who played that night, indicate that Ron enjoyed himself and played a good game, even though the warm tropical weather conditions were not what he is used to playing hockey in back in Canada.  Below is Ron indicating that he was having a good time:

The Fall 2000 Boston Experience

A new thrill for some of the boys in the fall of 2000, was a trip to play in the big leagues.  Yup, some of the chosen few, who know how to have a good time and possibly play a decent game of hockey, went off to Boston in November for a weekend of exhibition games against some East Coast rivals.  Have a look at how they did by following the link below:
