Repeat MVP Winner leads Team Typhoon to Victory in the Fall 2003 BBHA Tournament - October 6, 2003
At the end of three days of tournament games, it was Eric Bertrand, Captain of Team Typhoon who would not only walk away with the Tournament Championship Trophy for the 2nd time, but also the Tournament MVP award for the 2nd time! Eric tallied up an awesome 22 points, 13 points ahead of 2nd place point getters Ken Shulha, Tom Worthington-White and Chris Coleman with 9 points each.
The championship was even more bitter sweet since Eric, as Captain of the Typhoons was not present for the Draft night and had his team picked by the International Squad Captain Chad Critchley, who stepped in at the last minute totally unprepared but willingly up for the challenge. Unfortunately, Chad cannot qualify to get his name on the Cup, but I am sure the Typhoon team members will reward him in some fashion for putting their winning team together.
The tournament also saw the first penalty shot called in tournament history. It was an exciting moment for the fans and on looking tournament players as many have been waiting for this moment for a long time, but denied by the tournament referee Neil Movold on several occasions throughout the years. However, from the vantage point of the referee, it was the obvious call to make. The crowd on hand waited in anticipation as Kirby Smith, Captain of Team Yo' Ma Ma, took the ball in on the Big Bad Bruin's momentary substitute goalie Tom Cormier. Unfortunately, Kirby was shutdown by Tom and the Big Bad Bruins eventually went on to victory in that game.

So, the Canadians retained their World Championship Title, with Germany, who beat our boys 2-1 in earlier play, taking the Pool B title, which Bermuda had done at the last World Championships in Toronto in 2000.
With stronger squads and the entry of some new teams, it was a great tournament all around and our boys, although finishing lower than they had hoped, feel very proud of their team work and effort. For those of us who could not make the trip, we will be glad to have them all back to hear all the stories and get enough guys out to play during our regular weekly games.
Semi-Finals June 13: Germany 2 - Bermuda 1
In what was almost a three-peat of a 2-1 scoring outcome from our boys playing against Germany, there was one thing that did not hold up. This time around, Germany was on the winning side of the outcome. The loss now leaves our squad to play against Austria for the Pool B Bronze medal. Austria lost to the USA earlier by a score of 6-2.
Game 5 June 12: Switzerland 5 - Bermuda 2
I guess it would not be the best thing to do to beat the host nation. Having said that, I will bet that it was not the intention of the boys to let this one get away. Our correspondent has told us that Bermuda lead by 1 after the first period and the game was tied at 1-1 after the end of two periods. Another tough loss that puts the boys into the B Pool along with the USA, Austria and Germany. The B Pool games are as follows:
Semi-finals
USA vs. Austria
Germany vs. Bermuda
11th Place: Latvia vs. Mexico
The A Pool shapes up as follows:
Semi-finals
Canada vs. Slovakia
Czech Republic vs. Italy
5th Place: Pakistan vs. Switzerland
The game against Germany will most likely be a bit of a grudge game as Bermuda has not lost to Germany in two years.
Game 4 June 11: Italy 6 - Bermuda 1
Another hard fought game which was closer than the score would make it appear. There is little information at the moment from our correspondent on site, so be sure to check back here or the Official Championship website for more information when it becomes available.
Game 3 June 10: Bermuda 3 - Latvia 2
VICTORY at last!!! In a much closer game than expected, our boys held off a fighting Latvia team. Our correspondents on location have told us that things got very tense during the final 7 minutes or so as the Referees began calling quite a number of penalties against our boys. However, true determination and strong defensive play brought the team through to victory. Further information on the scorers was not available at the time of this posting. More to come as the information becomes available.
Game 2 June 9: USA 2 - Bermuda 1
In a heart breaker, the USA managed to get a bizarre goal to beat our boys. According to sources at the game, a shot over John Cowan's head, managed to hit off the glass, bounce off of John's back and fall into the crease where a USA player whacked it in to take the lead and the win. Unfortunately, the ball did not bounce as well for our boys. The lone goal for Bermuda was scored by Eric Bertrand.
Hopefully the boys will have better luck against Latvia, who lost to Switzerland by a score of 22 to 0.
Game 1 June 8: Canada 6 - Bermuda 0
The first game is over and the boys from Bermuda put up a strong test for the tournament favourites Team Canada. Although going down to defeat by 6 goals, the boys put pressure on the Canadian squad throughout the game. The fact that the game started at 8:30am, which is 5 hours ahead of Bermuda local time, did not help in getting the boys running on all full cylinders.
Look for further results after the next game against the US Team, which is played at 8:30am on the 9th.

Less than 3 weeks before the start of the 2003 Street Hockey World Championships in Sierre, Switzerland (June 7 to 14) - May 20, 2003
There is less than 3 weeks left before the BBHA Select Squad takes to the rink to play its first game of the 2003 Street Hockey World Championships against Canada. This year's tournament has 12 teams competing for the honor of becoming the best street hockey team in the world. Our boys are in Group Y with Canada, Switzerland, USA, Italy and Latvia. Mother Nature helps out the Spring 2003 BBHA Tournament - April 16, 2003
The 2003 BBHA Tournament has just completed on Saturday, April 12th and there was certainly lots of excitement and gamesmanship. Mother Nature also played her part in the end, but it certainly was not looking that way on Friday morning, the first day of the tournament, when she decided to rain upon the North Shore Facility the entire day. However, come Saturday, the skies cleared up and gave us a fantastic day for successfully completing the 9th BBHA Tournament.
At the end of a hard fought day of round robin matches, the two teams left standing were the Porn Depot and the Super Chiefs. With the Championship Game starts time of 5:14pm, it did not take long for the Super Chiefs to build up a 5 goal advantage over the Porn Depot in the first to 6 goals match. However, the Porn Depot were not going to let the Championship wash away so easily and enter the BBHA Tournament history books with the first shutout victory in a Championship Game. The Porn Depot buckled down and scored the next 6 goals of the nail biting, hotly contested match and became one of the best played, fan enjoyed Championship Games ever.
Matt Fleck scored 3 times for the winning Porn Depot in his first ever BBHA Tournament Championship Game. The BBHA League Elders look to see Matt take his scoring touch to the ISBHF World Championships in June.
As for the MVP Trophy, this tournament's recipient showed an amazing ability to not only last through the grueling day of play but also consistently perform and assist his team into the Championship Game. Although his team did not win the Cup, Tom Miller of the Super Chiefs exemplified the very meaning of what the MVP Trophy stands for. Tom also racked up 8 goals and 2 assists to get him into a tie for 5th place in the Points Leader chart. Well done Tom!

Team AC/DC are Crowned Fall 2002 BBHA Tournament Champions - October 15, 2002
The Fall 2002 Robin Hood Cup Tournament was one of the best played tournaments in the history of the BBHA. Both the winners Team AC/DC and the runners up Team Gouin Squad played a crowd pleasing Championship Game under near perfect weather conditions at the North Shore Facility. Ken Shuhla of Team AC/DC took the Tournament MVP award with 19 points collected over the tournament play.

BBHA Experienced Hall of Fame League - September 17th, 2002
Who ever said that BBHA Hall of Famers could not come out of retirement? Well, it was the case on Tuesday, September 17th. Some of the greatest players of BBHA history came out this fine night to show of the old moves that used to make the rest of the boys wet their pants when playing against them. This very successful evening, which has become a Tuesday night recurring event, was the brainchild of Tony Bibbings, the BBHA's first person to hold the office of Commissioner, and Chris Dickson. Although the on surface playing time did not end in any marathon games, the off surface drinking and reminiscing of old times lasted into the darkness of the night. Other memorable players included Larry Turnbull, Randy Somerville, Rob Mehta, Myles Orchard and Gary Carr.
Select Squad heads for Boston - in November 2002
A Select Squad of the BBHA membership will be heading off to a tournament in Boston in November. Stay tuned for more information to come. Ok, they are not exactly a Select Squad, but a bunch of BBHA guys who could not pass up a change to a weekend of playing ball hockey, drinking beer and attending a few professional sports events. In either case, the BBHA is proud to send them on their way...
